Governor Inslee and the Department of Health and Human Services (DSHS) want to add 300 "forensic" beds to Western State Hospital and bring the total of forensic beds to more than 900. The state confines "incompetent" people in these beds until they are "competent" and can be prosecuted. Otherwise they are indefinitely confined at the hospital or might be released without more services. This is part of our system of imprisonment rather than care for people with psychiatric disabilities. 

No New Washington Prisons says no to spending more than $600 million on an expanded mental health prison. The state should spend these funds on community mental health care and other necessities.

No new buildings, no new beds!
